Finding Joy in Learning: Levi’s Story
For second grader Levi, learning looks a little different these days – and that’s exactly what makes it work.
A student at Cyber Academy of South Carolina, Levi made the switch to online school earlier this year after struggling to feel comfortable in a traditional classroom setting. Now, he’s thriving in an environment that better matches his energy, creativity and curiosity.
“He’s busy,” his mom, Summer, shared. “Trying to sit still and stay quiet all day was frustrating for him. It just wasn’t how he learns best.”
A Fresh Start
Levi began his virtual school journey after previously attending a local private school. While the change took some adjustment, it didn’t take long for both Levi and his mom to notice a difference.
“It’s been really good,” Summer said. “We don’t have the daily struggles anymore. It’s been better for him mentally and emotionally.”
Now, his days include movement, outdoor breaks and a learning rhythm that keeps him engaged and motivated.
Big Imagination, Bigger Ideas
One thing that hasn’t changed? Levi’s incredible imagination.
With a love for science and storytelling, Levi recently turned an idea into something big – a self-published book. Inspired by science experiments and his own creative thinking, he dictated the story to his mom, who typed as he spoke.
“He just kept going,” Summer said. “He didn’t want to stop.”
Levi’s story features everything from school life to a dramatic “giant elephant toothpaste” experiment. “I like science experiments,” Levi explained. “That’s what I talked about in my book.”
An Engineer in the Making
Levi’s curiosity doesn’t stop at storytelling. He enjoys building, experimenting and exploring how things work.
“I’ve built all kinds of stuff – from Legos to things with wires and batteries,” he said.
It’s no surprise, then, that he already has big plans for the future – “I want to be an architectural engineer.”
Learning Beyond the Screen
Even in a virtual setting, Levi is staying connected and active. From museum visits to upcoming farm field trips, he’s enjoying hands-on learning experiences outside the home.
“He loves learning beyond paperwork,” Summer said.
Outside of school, Levi stays busy with karate, sports and outdoor adventures like fishing and hunting – always finding new ways to explore the world around him.
For Summer, the change to virtual learning has been more than just a schedule shift – it’s been a transformation.
“I’m very proud of him and what he’s done,” she said.
And for Levi, it’s clear: when learning clicks, confidence follows.
