Kylee’s Summer Reading Challenge Proves Learning Doesn’t Stop Over Break
While many students spend summer break hitting pause on academics, Cyber Academy of South Carolina third grader Kylee was turning the page… literally. In just a few short months, Kylee read 150 books as part of a self-motivated, summer reading challenge!
What started last summer as a 50-book challenge from her mom, Shanna, quickly turned into a family tradition and a growing goal. After reading more than 100 books last year, Kylee set her sights even higher this summer: 150 books by the time school started. And she did it!
From Dr. Seuss classics to Little Golden Books, Kylee began each day with five books in the morning and five more at night. Even her cats, Tiger Lily and Moonlight, joined in on story time. Her grandparents, aunt, and parents all pitched in too, making reading a true family affair. Some of her favorite titles included “Ivy and Bean,” “The Berenstain Bears” series, and “Betty Confetti.”
And while reading might be her superpower, Kylee’s favorite subject at school is art. When she’s not flying through books, she loves to paint, draw, and color.
Kylee’s story is a shining example of how online learners can take initiative, pursue their passions, and exceed expectations. She even recently spoke to her local paper, Walterboro Live, about her accomplishment! Read the full story here.
At CASC, we’re proud to celebrate students like Kylee who embody our belief that learning can happen anywhere, anytime, and it never stops when you’re inspired.
