Finding Her Rhythm: Georgia Lynn’s Journey at Cyber Academy of South Carolina
For Georgia Lynn, an 11th grader at Cyber Academy of South Carolina (CASC), life is anything but ordinary – in the best way possible. Growing up in a small town in Orangeburg County, Georgia Lynn has built a life that blends academics, family, and a wide range of passions, all made possible through virtual learning.
“I’m from a little, teeny, tiny town right outside of Orangeburg,” she shared. “I’ve always lived in South Carolina.”
From Skeptic to Superfan
Georgia Lynn’s journey to virtual school began during the uncertainty during the pandemic. After spending her early years in a traditional school, she transitioned to CASC in sixth grade.
Everything changed when she discovered Beta Club.
“I found Beta Club after my first year, and I’ve been in it ever since. I have amazing friends from all over the state now. I absolutely love it.”
Today, Georgia Lynn is deeply involved, even serving on a leadership committee and competing at state and national levels. Recently, her team took home first place in a musicology competition. “We were champions!” she said with a smile.
Supporting Family, Creating Opportunity
While clubs helped Georgia Lynn find her community, family played a major role in her decision to stay virtual. When her father, a military veteran, became seriously ill due to complications from burn pit exposure, being at home became essential.

“For those first two years, he couldn’t do anything on his own and needed us to help him with everything,” she explained. “Having me at home to help with that was my main reason for not going back.”
Now, with her father more independent, Georgia Lynn has chosen to remain at Cyber Academy – not just for her family, but because she’s found a system that works.
“I love it here. I love my friends. At this point, they’re stuck with me.”
Balancing It All
Georgia Lynn has a very busy, full schedule. In addition to her academics and Beta Club commitments, she’s a dedicated Girl Scout of 10 years, a softball player and even a competitive clogger.
“Virtual school lets me travel and help my family while still getting my work done,” she said. “That flexibility has been amazing.”
She also uses that freedom to babysit younger cousins and visit family across multiple states – something that wouldn’t be possible in a traditional setting.
Despite her busy schedule, Georgia Lynn has learned how to manage it all with support from her mom and her therapist.
“My mom helps me a lot – we sit down and plan everything out,” she said. “That’s been really important for managing my time and my anxiety.”
Big Dreams for the Future
Looking ahead, Georgia Lynn has her sights set on a future in marine biology.
“I want to study sharks,” she said. “I love sharks.”
With plans to attend the University of South Carolina Beaufort, she’s already charting a course toward her dream career.
From national competitions to soft ball to clogging, Georgia Lynn is making the most of every opportunity – and proving that with the right support, students can truly thrive anywhere.
