From the Lowcountry to the Spotlight: Sarabi’s Story of Creativity and Confidence
Cyber Academy of South Carolina senior Sarabi calls the Lowcountry home, but her story begins with movement. As the daughter of a military father, she spent her earliest years in North Carolina and Kentucky before settling in the Charleston area.
“I’ve lived in the Charleston area ever since I was about five, and it’s the best,” she shared.
That sense of home – paired with a strong, supportive family – has shaped Sarabi into a student who embraces both her roots and her ambitions.
Finding Her Path in Online Learning
Sarabi transitioned to virtual school in sixth grade, during the pandemic – and chose to stay. What began as an adjustment quickly became an environment where she could thrive.
“At first, it was just learning how to use everything, but once I got the hang of it, I was like, ‘Oh, this is easy,’” she said.
Through Cyber Academy of South Carolina (CASC), Sarabi found not just academic success, but also confidence.
“This school gives you a chance to grow in things you’re not comfortable with – it’s a safe space for me,” she explained.
Support from teachers and staff – especially her counselor, Ms. Blevins – helped her build the confidence to ask questions, advocate for herself, and plan for life after graduation.
A Passion for Performance
Sarabi’s love for storytelling extends beyond the classroom. An avid reader with a preference for mystery novels, she has also stepped into the world of acting.
“I’m working on building my resume and my headshots so I can start booking roles,” she said.
She’s currently training locally and plans to attend college this fall to study theater. Her dream? Becoming an actress and contributing to large-scale, imaginative films.
“I want to be part of creating something big – films where you can bring ideas to life with a whole team,” she said.
Honoring Culture Through Craft
Beyond acting, Sarabi is deeply connected to her Gullah Geechee heritage through sweetgrass weaving – an art form passed down for generations.
“It started as a survival skill, and now it’s something we turn into art,” she explained.
Her talent has earned top placements in regional and national competitions, and she continues to create and sell her work through her family’s business. From baskets to jewelry, each piece reflects both history and creativity.
Looking Towards the Future
Sarabi graduates with dual enrollment college credits already completed, a strong academic record and a clear vision for her future. As she prepares for her next chapter, she carries with her the lessons of persistence, creativity and community.
“If my mom hadn’t pushed me, I wouldn’t be where I am today,” she said.
From the Lowcountry to the stage, Sarabi is ready to take on what comes next – one bold step at a time.
