Building a Brighter Future: Isaac’s Journey at Boys Farm and Cyber Academy of South Carolina

Stories & Spotlights
CASC Isaac

Just outside of Columbia, Boys Farm has long provided a safe, stable home for children who cannot remain with their families. Through family-style homes and dedicated mentors, students like Isaac are given the opportunity to rebuild, grow, and thrive.

Isaac arrived at Boys Farm when he was just six or seven years old. Now, nearing 17, he reflects on how far he’s come.

“I went from being a kid who couldn’t sit still and was always in trouble to someone who can focus and get things done,” he said. “I went from the bad to good.”

A New Approach to Learning

For many students at Boys Farm, traditional classrooms haven’t always been the right fit. Recognizing this, the organization partnered with Cyber Academy of South Carolina (CASC) to launch an on-site microschool – bringing education directly to students in a more supportive environment.

For Isaac, that has made all the difference.

“I love it, to be honest,” he said. “You get one-on-one help with teachers, and they’re super nice.”

He credits teachers like Ms. Norris and Ms. Roden for helping him stay engaged and motivated. With a structure that allows him to focus more deeply on his coursework, Isaac feels more confident in his academic success.

“My favorite things are the teachers, the one-on-one support, and getting chances to improve my work,” he said.

Finding His Passions

Through CASC, Isaac has also reconnected with his creativity – especially in art.

“When I was younger, I used to draw all the time, but I stopped,” he said. “When I started art class this year, it sparked back up.”

Now, he spends much of his free time drawing and exploring digital art, often inspired by other artists while developing his own style.

“I draw a ton now,” he said. “I even thought about selling it – but I like it too much to give it away.”

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Education at Boys Farm extends far beyond academics. Students are building life skills through hands-on experiences, including renovation projects and outdoor activities.

“Becoming a hard worker, having responsibility, and learning leadership – that’s what I’ve gained,” Isaac shared.

The campus is also expanding opportunities through its new “Reins of Hope” equine therapy program, where students will learn horse care while building confidence and emotional well-being – further strengthening the whole-child approach.

Looking to the Future

With a strong support system and clear goals, Isaac is focused on what comes next.

“I want to go into the military,” he said. “That’s been my goal for a long time.”

With that determination, it’s clear he’s ready for the future.

“I’m a hard worker, and I’ll get the job done,” he said.
