Meet CASC’s Elementary School Principal, Nicole Byars

When Nicole Byars first became a teacher, she knew education was more than academics – it was about connection, confidence, and helping students believe in themselves.

Today, she serves as Elementary School Principal at Cyber Academy of South Carolina (CASC), bringing that connection, building that confidence and helping students in a virtual setting.

“Our goal at CASC is to meet every student where they are and help them grow,” she said. “In an online environment, we’re intentional about building relationships. We take time to know each child, not just as a student, but as a person.”

From the Classroom to Virtual Leadership

Before joining CASC, Ms. Byars spent more than a decade in a traditional classroom. That experience gave her a deep understanding of how children learn best and how teachers can inspire growth at every level.

She joined Cyber Academy of South Carolina in 2018, drawn to the school’s mission of offering families an individualized educational option. Over time, she advanced into leadership roles, bringing her passion to the elementary team.

“I’ve always loved finding new ways to reach students,” she said. “When I discovered virtual learning, I saw how powerful it could be for students who needed something different, whether that was more one-on-one attention, or simply a new start.”

Building Confidence and Community – Virtually

Under Ms. Byars’ leadership, CASC’s elementary program has grown into a thriving, close-knit community. Students participate in live lessons, small-group instruction, and hands-on learning projects that keep them engaged and excited.

One of Ms. Byars’ favorite initiatives is the Elementary Morning Meeting; a daily gathering designed to build classroom community and celebrate student successes.

“It’s one of my favorite parts of the day,” she said. “We share wins, recognize growth, and make sure every child starts their day feeling seen and valued.”

She also encourages family involvement through virtual open houses, parent workshops, and regular communication – creating strong connections between the parents, teachers, and students.

“In a virtual setting, parents truly are our partners,” she explained. “We couldn’t do this without them.”

Supporting and Empowering Teachers

As a leader, Ms. Byars is known for her supportive, collaborative approach with teachers. She prioritizes open communication, ongoing professional development, and an encouraging culture.

“Our teachers are the heart of our school,” she said. “They are dedicated, compassionate, and creative. My role is to make sure they feel supported, because when teachers thrive, students thrive.”

Ms. Byars often hosts team-building activities, instructional workshops and recognition events to celebrate the hard work of her educators. She believes that investing in her staff’s well-being directly impacts student success.

Looking Ahead – Virtually and Beyond

For Ms. Byars, the future of education is full of possibilities – especially when schools like CASC continue to innovate and adapt to meet families’ needs.

“Virtual learning isn’t the future. It’s the present,” she said. “We’re showing that students can build strong relationships, gain confidence, and excel academically in an online environment.”

As she looks ahead, Ms. Byars remains focused on one guiding principle: every child deserves not only a teacher, but a principal, who believes in them.

“At CASC, we’re helping students find their voice, their confidence, and their love of learning,” she said. “That’s what makes this work so meaningful.”

Cyber Academy of South Carolina is proud to have leaders like Nicole Byars guiding its youngest students and instilling a love of learning, every day.
