Online School, Real Connections: CASC Students Gather for Statewide Fall Meet-Ups

Students outside

At Cyber Academy of South Carolina (CASC), we know that choosing an online school doesn’t mean choosing to learn alone. One of the most common questions families ask is, “Will my child still have opportunities to make friends?” Our answer is always a confident “yes!”, and our students proved it once again during our statewide in-person outings on November 7, 2025.

Across South Carolina, CASC students logged off for the morning (and afternoon for some!) to join their classmates, Learning Coaches, and teachers for a day of connection, fresh air, and fun. From scenic hiking trails to lively bowling alleys and arcades, students gathered to build friendships, explore new places, and enjoy the social experiences families value most.

Elementary & Middle School Hikes: A Day Outdoors Together

In Columbia, students walked the historic Columbia Canal Path, while those in Florence enjoyed the peaceful Florence Rail Trail. Greenville-area students adventured through the Conestee Nature Preserve’s Yellow Trail, and families in Greenwood explored the Ninety-Six Historic Site along the Historic Interpretive Trail.

Whether wandering through the Vereen Historical Memorial Gardens in Myrtle Beach, taking in the river views along Rock Hill’s Riverwalk, exploring the wooded paths in Santee/Walterboro, or discovering the Cottonwood Trail in Spartanburg, students were able to unplug, get active, and experience the joy of real-life connection with their peers. Across all hike locations, more than 145 students and Learning Coaches RSVPed to join the fun.

High School Bowling & Arcade Meet-Ups: Friendly Competition & Big Laughs

High schoolers got the chance to connect with classmates they may see every day online but rarely meet in person. Laughter echoed across lanes as students teamed up, cheered each other on, and, most importantly, built real friendships. In total, 157 high school students RSVP’d for these events, making it one of our most well-attended outings of the year.

Connection Is Core to CASC

At CASC, we believe learning happens best when students feel seen, supported, and connected. That’s why in-person meet-ups like these remain a central part of our student experience. Online school offers flexibility, safety, and individualized learning, but it also offers community. Days like November 7 remind us that our students aren’t just classmates on a screen; they’re part of a statewide community full of energy, curiosity, and friendship.
